Enjoyed Andrew Critchlow’s insightful article on his cycling comeback. Once I’d got past that he prepared for National Junior 10 Mile Time Trial with a bottle of Thunderbird! (LEGEND.) It became obvious that the sooner we get up the mountain the better: “…Every year after 40 will lob a few seconds off your best potential time over 25 miles, and some studies have an estimated as much as a 10% decline in VO2 Max between the ages of 35 and 55.”
Motivated, I pop into the gym for a 5 minute test on the watt bike – no improvement: average watts 260; peak watts 460; watts per kilo 3.17 – depressing… Pass me the T-bird.
