Shit’s getting real

This has been a slow-burner, so far; more of an idea than a commitment. Yes, I’ve watched some YouTube videos, read some books, spoken to some friends who’ve been up and loosely talked about doing it this year. But the point at which I pinged Carlos £201 for the return train journey to Avignon is the point of no return. Either we will get up the mountain on the 24th May or we wont. There is a Provencal proverb: “You don’t have to be mad to go up the Ventoux, but you’re mad if you go back.” and I can’t imagine trying again if we don’t make it.

Some facts:

  • I weigh over 100kg (I can’t check because the battery in my scales is flat (probably because I stood on them)).
  • I am 46 years old.
  • I have a weakness for sugar and I always feel ‘a bit peckish’
  • I hate running and I think I hate going to the gym although I don’t know because I’ve never been.
  • I have been a member of the Tonbridge School gym for well over a year
